Nicola Peltz, Transformers and Sex Appeal

“I don’t watch too many movies. I used to watch them a lot when I was a little kid before I could get my hands on any porn, because back then if I wanted to see a really hot girl my best bet was to watch a movie.” –Jon, “Don Jon”

“Transformers: Dark Side of The Moon” may have received poor reviews, but with a worldwide box office gross of over one billion dollars, it was clear that a sequel would probably happen. June 27 will usher in “Transformers: Age of Extinction” Michael Bay’s fourth transformers film. Nicola Peltz has been employed as the eye candy for this fourth installment, which is what leads me to the topic of this post.

With the first three films, numerous horny fanboys took to online forums or Youtube to assert their masculinity and express their intent to see the film in order to get a chance to see Megan Fox or Rosie- Huntington Whitely in their big screen glory. With the Avengers, the same was true for Scarlett Johansson. The examples continue. Nicola Peltz will be the third actress to contribute to the terrible acting the films are criticized for. After seeing Peltz in “The Last Airbender” and in “Bates Motel (where she is a weak link” I will avoid this fourth installment with a ten-foot pole.

I have indicated in my videos that although I can enjoy a beautiful woman on screen, eye candy is never my main or sole motivation for seeing a movie. I abhor the men and women whose only motivation for seeing a film is to drool over a physical specimen in the film. I do not mean that they admire the actor or actress’s talent, as well as their looks. I mean they could not care less about such trivial or geeky things, and watch a film simply to catch a glimpse of a six-pack or sideboob. Despite my admiration for Scarlett Johansson’s beauty and curves, I would never pay to see a film simply for a chance to ogle her.

As a twenty two year old male, I understand such urges. However, I also realize that there are other avenues for seeing attractive people, such as real life or various websites where I can see people do more than lean over a car engine for free. The sheep who will pay to see a movie only to drool over their supposed husband or wife, are acting as if watching the movie is the only way they will ever see a hot girl.

Some may argue that the example of Peltz is irrelevant, since TF4 is bound to be a film for mindless entertainment anyway. Why criticize one actor when there is so much more wrong with the film? Fair enough, let’s take another example.:The inclusion of the Hannah in Dexter. I do not want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen the seventh season, but the character’s inclusion leads to an idiotic and polarizing turn of events in the show. On one side, we had rationale fans that criticized the writing’s and how it undermined most of the things that were established in the previous six seasons. On the other side we had drooling fanboys who liked the character since she provided eye candy. Dexter is not the place for eye candy; it is a show about a serial killer. The trend of casting hot actors or actresses in roles that are not suited for them will sadly continue as long as sheep keep spending money with their primitive idea that it is only natural to pathetically pine for people they will never meet.
